EWC’s Chapman Wins McCook Tournament
Eastern Wyoming College’s Joshua Chapman won the McCook Community College Spring Tournament with an E. Chapman also lead the Lancers to a team victory March 28-29.
“I was very excited for Josh to come away with the individual win,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. “He has had some great rounds this spring but hadn’t put a full tournament together until McCook.”
A few inches of snow had fallen in McCook the week of the tournament.
“We weren’t sure what to expect when we arrived on Thursday,” Smith said. ‘There was still some snow here and there but for the most part it was gone and the weather was pretty good for a spring tournament in McCook. McCook’s course is always a challenge.”
Besides having Chapman at the top of the leaderboard, the Lancers had Ryker Dunkley finish in a tie for third with a +4, and teammate Taiki Sugawara finish in sixth with a +7. Fellow Lancers Tytan Birchell, Jax Oviatt, Tyler Wallace, and Leander Suttka finished in the top 20. Lancers Brodey Deacon, Coltin Powell, Jordan Hunt, Braylon Bringham, and Tyler Fraser also helped give EWC a team win with a +20.
“The guys battled both days to come away with our third win in as many starts this spring,” Smith said.
The Lancers finished ahead of Otero College who had a +32, and Southeast Community College who finished with a +34 rounding out the top three teams.
