Nearly 80 people were in attendance at the second annual “Trucks Are For Girls” event on Oct. 12. The event was hosted by Eastern Wyoming College in cooperation with Women in Trucking (WIT) and the Girls Scouts of Wyoming and Montana.

This year’s event was open to the public as well as Girl Scouts, EWC CDL Instructor Ed Kimes A recruiter from EWC was also onsite to promote the various programs offered by the college.
“The event is designed to introduce girls and women to the many opportunities in the transportation/logistics industry,” Kimes said. “This is a mostly male occupation and the event is designed to help girls and women realize that there are many opportunities for them in this field.”

There was no cost for admission and food was provided by the EWC Douglas campus paid for by the EWC Foundation.

A warm ambience filled the room as students and attendees alike indulged themselves in the world of truck driving, Kimes said. Students had the opportunity to explore career opportunities and talk to people in the industry.

“The atmosphere was amazing. People from the transportation and logistics industry enjoy sharing what we do with the public,” Kimes said. “The only time this industry gets noticed is when something goes wrong. So, the chance to be proactive and show the public what goes into moving goods and freight across the nation and world is something every industry professional enjoys doing.”

The event went so well they are planning their next Trucks Are for Girls event next year.
