EWC golf teams swept home invite

Eastern Wyoming College’s Men’s and Golf Team won the EWC Invite held at Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington on Sept. 4-5.

“I’m excited that both teams got the team wins and we had the individual champions for the men and women,” EWC Head Golf Coach Zach Smith said.

“Sophomore Jamie Lambert had his best tournament as a Lancer (on the Men’s team) and I couldn’t be happier for him. He put a lot of work over the summer and it paid off right away this Fall with his first college win.” Smith added. “Our second men’s team ended up placing second as a team too, it was an all-around great week for Lancer Golf.”

Lambert finished on the top of the leaderboard with a -6, three strokes ahead of fellow Lancer Jace Nielsen. Central Wyoming College’s Brodie Dale finished in third with a -1. Lancer Freddie Dancox finished in a tie for fourth place with a +1.

“To see my name at the top of the leaderboard both days was remarkably special,” Lambert said. “Since getting to Torrington my main goal has been to try and be a key player for this team and to do everything I can to help them be successful so to help the team out as well as picking up my first collegiate win is beyond special.”

Day One Lambert shot a 67 while battling 20 mph winds.

“It was really far from ideal conditions but to get that kind of score with such little bogeys was naturally an exciting thing to do. Naturally, eagling the first hole of the day helps too,” Lambert added. “Second day was better conditions, I felt like my play personally was a lot more scrappy. But I was thrilled to get the job done.”

Eastern Wyoming College also had Ben Brown finishing in eighth place with a +5, one stroke ahead of teammate Josh White. Lancer Kaden Linford finished in a tie for 10th place, shooting a +7. Fellow Lancers Aiden Walker, Troy Young, Daniel Meyer, Landen Gilmore, and Nash Coleman all finished in the top 25.

The Lancer Men’s won the tournament with a +6, Central Wyoming College finished second with a +15, and EWC’s B Team finished in third with a +23.

“We are pretty young on the guys’ side but I’m confident we’ll find our stride this semester to see who is going to fill some big shoes left by some graduating sophomores,” Smith said/

On the ladies’ side, Lancer Sara Maciej took home the win with a +11. Fellow Lancer Jessica Applegarth finished in third with a +15, with teammate Madison Fujimoto finishing in fourth with a +19.

“Sara played great on the girls’ side as well. The girls had a fantastic first tournament,” Smith said.

Fellow Lancers Elliann Irick finished in sixth place with a +28, with teammate Bailey Watson one stroke back, putting her in a tie for seventh place. Lancers Ashlyn Matheson and Georgie Paterakis rounded out the top 10 with Matheson shooting a +32 and Paterakis finishing with a +36. Quinlann Yeager finished the tournament in 13th place.

The Lady Lancers charged their way to a commanding victory, shooting a +69. Central Wyoming College finished second with a +111.

“All and all, it was a good week and we are excited to head to Riverton, Wyoming this week,” Smith added.
