EWC Golf Teams Sweep MCC Invite
Eastern Wyoming College’s men’s and women’s golf teams continued their winning streak by topping the leaderboards at the McCook Community College Invite, held Sept. 25–26 in McCook, Nebraska.
The Lancer men captured the team title with a score of +30, finishing 16 strokes ahead of Northeastern Junior College. In a showcase of depth, EWC’s men’s A and B teams tied for the team win. The women’s team also dominated, winning with a combined +61.
“Both teams did well again this week,” EWC golf coach Zach Smith said. “I was a little worried about the course conditions because McCook received some terrible hail damage about a week ago, but the course did a great job getting things back into shape for the tournament. The men’s A and B teams tying for the team win shows the tremendous depth we have on this year’s team. The girls played very well on a tough course.”
Lancer Sara Maciej claimed the women’s individual title at +4, edging teammate Jessica Applegarth, who carded a career-best 74 on Friday and finished at +9. Ashlyn Matheson placed third, while Madison Fujimoto and Bailey Watson tied for fourth, and Elliann Ireck secured sixth. Quinlann Yeager and Georgie Paterakis also represented EWC.
On the men’s side, Troy Young and Josh White tied for second with +5, just two strokes behind McCook’s Jeram Kastens. Ben Brown, Aiden Walker and Freddie Dancox tied for fourth at +7 alongside NJC’s Ryan Ewoniuk. Additional Lancers competing included Jace Nielsen, Landen Gilmore, Kaden Linford, Josh Lane, Nash Coleman and Daniel Meyer.
“We need to keep getting better and pushing ourselves to shave a stroke or two here and there,” Smith said.
