EWC Esports Opens Season with Fortnite Victory and Close Chess Match

Eastern Wyoming College Esports opened its 2026 season this week with competition in Fortnite and chess, getting the new season underway with a victory and a closely contested match.

The EWC Fortnite team began the season with a win over the College of the Muscogee Nation. Meanwhile, EWC’s chess competitor narrowly fell to NorthWest Arkansas Community College in a competitive opening match.

The Fortnite team will have another opportunity to compete this year through a second tournament series offered by the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAe). Unlike the team’s Monday competition, this series includes both two-year and four-year institutions, giving EWC an opportunity to face teams from a broader range of colleges and universities.

The additional Fortnite matches will take place Fridays at 5 p.m. EWC Esports plans to stream the Friday competitions on Twitch, providing fans and members of the campus community an opportunity to follow the Lancers throughout the season.
