EWC Foundation Golf Tournament raises more than $65,000 for scholarships and programs

The Eastern Wyoming College Foundation hosted its annual golf tournament at Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington, drawing 33 teams for a four-person scramble filled with competition and community spirit.

The event had strong support from the community, alumni and families of EWC golfers. About half of the teams traveled from out of town, making the tournament a true regional gathering.

When the scorecards were tallied, the foursome of Tom Popilek, Bob Lehmann, Bryan Junge and Jessica Applegarth claimed first place. Tying for second were the teams of Denton Shaw, Erik Eddington, Allie Eddington and Noelle Shaw; and Whit Peterson, Megan Peterson, Gerald Wilmoth and Ryan Krul.

Other top finishers included:

  • Fourth place: Scott Prusia, Michelle Prusia, Sandra Huckfeldt, John Long
  • Fifth place: Rick Stapleton, Dick Yates, Mark Shinost, Jessica Parsons
  • Sixth place: Craig Fullmer, Pat Blacker, Jason Fullmer, Ben Jackson
  • Seventh place: Merrit Bunker, Riley Wright, Cam Boughton, Kurtis Wilson
  • Eighth place: Joe Guth, Gaylene Guth, Patrick Guth, Brett Guth
  • Ninth place: Kris Brooks, Ron Brooks, Bob Childs, Bonnie Childs

In addition to the main tournament, special activities like a putting contest, drone golf ball drop and auction raised another $10,000 directly for the EWC golf team. Altogether, the event generated more than $65,000 for scholarships and college activities through the EWC Foundation.

“This event is a highlight of the year, and we’re so grateful for the outpouring of support,” said Zach Smith, EWC golf coach. “The funds raised not only strengthen our program but also give our student-athletes opportunities to succeed both in competition and in the classroom.”

Smith explained that some of the EWC golfers were able to play in the tournament with family and friends, while others helped spot balls, delivered water, and stepped in to take a team’s “fifth shot” on designated holes as part of a fundraiser for the program.

Todd Peterson, president of the EWC Foundation, added, “The golf tournament continues to grow thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, alumni and friends. Their commitment ensures that Eastern Wyoming College students have the resources they need to thrive.”

The Foundation expressed special thanks to the many sponsors who made the event possible and a resounding success.
