EWC Golf Teams Compete in Spring Season Opener
Eastern Wyoming College’s (EWC) men’s and women’s golf teams opened their spring season this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, competing against top collegiate programs from across the nation.
“It was great to get out and play our first tournament of the spring,” EWC golf coach Zach Smith said. “Vegas didn’t provide the great weather that you would normally associate with Las Vegas, but we were excited to play some competitive golf regardless.”
The EWC men’s golf team delivered an impressive performance, securing a second-place team finish—its highest finish at an NCAA Division II invite in program history. The team also maintains its 17th national ranking. The EWC women’s golf team finished seventh overall in a competitive field, solidifying their position as the 19th-ranked team in the nation.
“It was a full-team effort, with sophomores Braylon Bingham and Josh Chapman leading the way. Braylon finished second, and Josh finished 10th,” Smith said. “It was a great start to the spring season for the guys.”
“The girls fought hard on the first day, considering the tournament conditions, and were able to play better on the second day. Jessica Applegarth had a great first day but let a few get away on day two,” Smith added. “I’m proud of the way the girls kept battling, and I can’t wait to get things going with them this spring.”
Both the men’s and women’s golf teams will now prepare for their next challenge, heading to La Junta, Colorado, to compete in the Otero Invite.
