TORRINGTON, Wyoming – Eastern Wyoming College’s men’s and women’s golf teams continued their dominant fall seasons, sweeping the team titles at the Lamar Community College tournament Oct. 15-16 in Lamar, Colorado, to finish Region 9 tournament play undefeated.
The Lancer men shot a team score of 20-over par, finishing 11 strokes ahead of second-place Lamar Community College. The women claimed an even larger victory, finishing at 100-over par, 166 strokes ahead of second-place Northeastern Junior College.
“It was great to end the Region 9 tournaments undefeated for the men’s and women’s programs in Lamar last week,” EWC golf coach Zach Smith said.
Smith said the men faced several close competitions during the fall season but consistently responded with strong second-day performances to secure team victories.
“I think that says a lot about the guys, that they can rise to the occasion when things get tight,” Smith said.
The Lancers also delivered strong individual performances on both sides, with multiple golfers finishing near the top of their respective leaderboards.
Ben Brown led the EWC men with a second-place finish at 1-over par. Teammate Jace Nielsen finished one stroke behind Brown in third place, while Aiden Walker placed fourth at 5-over par.
Josh White tied for 11th, Stockton Archibald finished 15th and Troy Young tied for 16th.
Brown’s performance continued a strong fall season in which he has led Region 9 individually.
“Ben proved again why he is leading the region with two solid days and a second-place finish,” Smith said.
On the women’s side, Evita Babraityte captured the individual title at 12-over par, followed by teammate Madison Fujimoto in second place at 18-over par. Ashlyn Matteson tied for third, Tristyn Green finished fifth and Kaidyn Patterson placed seventh.
Cold, windy conditions challenged the golfers throughout the two-day tournament in Lamar, making the individual performances even more impressive.
“We faced cold, windy weather both days in Lamar,” Smith said. “So Evita to shoot 77, 75 in Lamar is a great accomplishment.”
Smith said the women continue to push one another to improve each week, even when their team competitions are not as close as those faced by the men.
With both teams finishing the Region 9 tournament schedule undefeated, Smith credited the depth of the Lancer rosters for helping sustain their success throughout the fall.
“I’m thankful for some great depth on both teams,” Smith said.
The tournament sweep adds to a successful fall season for EWC golf, as the Lancers continue to demonstrate their strength across both men’s and women’s competition.
