EWC golf teams sweep Northeastern Junior College tournament

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Eastern Wyoming College’s men’s and women’s golf teams continued their impressive fall seasons, capturing both team championships at the Northeastern Junior College fall tournament Oct. 2, 2026. The Lancers also celebrated a significant individual milestone as Evita Babraityte earned her first collegiate tournament victory.

The EWC men finished at 6-over par with a two-round total of 574, securing a five-stroke victory over Lamar Community College, which finished second at 11-over par (579). McCook Community College placed third at 24-over par (592).

The Lancer women delivered another commanding team performance, finishing at 72-over par with a combined score of 640. Northeastern Junior College finished second at 204-over par (772), giving EWC a 132-stroke advantage.

Babraityte led the women’s individual standings with rounds of 74 and 80 for a two-round total of 154, finishing at 12-over par to claim the championship. Teammates Madison Fujimoto and Ashlyn Matheson tied for second place at 15-over par (157), giving EWC a sweep of the top three individual finishes.

EWC Golf Coach Zach Smith praised Babraityte’s achievement and expressed confidence in her continued development.

“I was very excited to see Evita get her first college win,” Smith said. “I think there are plenty more to come. She has such a solid game, I’m anxious to see her gain confidence from this win and really take off.”

Smith also acknowledged the women’s consistent performances while emphasizing the team’s potential for even stronger results.

“Overall the girls played well again but I know they feel and I agree with them that we can put some better team scores together,” Smith said.

The Lancer women placed all six golfers among the top 10 individual finishers. Tristyn Green finished fifth at 30-over par (172), while Kaidyn Patterson tied for eighth at 37-over par (179). Izabel Nelson rounded out the EWC lineup in 10th place at 38-over par (180).

On the men’s side, Aiden Walker led the Lancers with an outstanding two-round performance, shooting 71 and 69 to finish at 2-under par (140) and secure second place individually.

Troy Young tied for third at 1-over par (143), while Stockton Archibald finished seventh at 2-over par (144). Josh White tied for eighth at 3-over par (145), giving EWC four golfers among the top eight finishers.

Jace Nielsen finished 13th at 4-over par (146), while Ben Brown placed 17th at 6-over par (148).

The men’s championship was particularly hard-fought, with Lamar Community College challenging EWC throughout the closing holes of Friday’s competition.

“The guys were in an absolute dog fight on Friday with Lamar, who has played very well this year,” Smith said. “Lamar got within one stroke with a couple holes to go but luckily we got a birdie late from Ben and one of their guys hit one out of bounds that let us walk away with another team victory.”

The tournament also provided an opportunity for several Lancer golfers to demonstrate their ability to contribute to the team’s continued success.

“We had a couple of new guys in the top 5 that played well,” Smith said. “We need to keep building some depth so that when one of the top guys slips up a bit, the other guys can be there to pick up the slack.”

EWC’s second men’s team also competed in the tournament, finishing seventh overall at 44-over par (612), providing additional competitive experience and opportunities for player development.

With another sweep of the team championships and Babraityte’s breakthrough individual victory, the Lancers continue to demonstrate the strength and depth of both programs as they build momentum through the fall season.
