EWC golf teams swept LCC invite
Eastern Wyoming College’s Men’s and Women’s Golf Team won the LCC Invite in Lamar, Colorado on Oct. 3-4.
“Both teams played great again this week,” Lancer head golf coach Zach Smith said. “For the men’s and women’s teams to both win by 30 plus strokes is huge. Especially the girls, who had a six stroke lead going into day 2 and then played great on Friday to win by 39 strokes.”
The Lancer Ladies finished on the top of the leaderboard for the second time this session with a +136. Otero College women’s team finished second with +175.
“Five girls placed in the top 10 which is awesome,” Smith said.
Individually the Lancer Ladies had five golfers in the top 10. Lancers Elliann Irick and Georgie Lou Paterakis finished in a three-way tie for second with a +33. Fellow Lancer Bailey Watson finished in fifth with a +35, while teams Shayla Clayton and Jessica Applegarth finished in seventh and eighth place. Lancer Halle Allen finished in 12th place.
On the men’s side the Lancers won by 32 strokes finishing with a +7 ahead of Otero College. Individually, all the Lancers finished in the top 10.
“We’ve had such a balance on the men’s team in terms of whose week it is each week to play well,” Smith added.
Lancer Joshua Chapman finished on the top of the leaderboard with a -2, while fellow Lancer Braylon Bingham finished in second with a +1. Lancer Mathis Fortin finished in fourth with a +3 and teammates Tytan Birchall and Taiki Sugawara finished in a tie for fifth with a +7. Lancer Freddie Dancox finish the tournament in ninth place shooting a +8.
“I was happy for Josh to get the individual win, especially because it’s his birthday on Oct. 7,” Smith said. “We are in a good place right now but we need to stay focused and keep grinding in order to get better.”
