EWC golfers win Lamar tournament
The Eastern Wyoming College golf team competed in Lamar, CO September 30-October 1 and won the two-day tournament with a score of 559. McCook Community College finished 2nd with a score of 571.
“The guys played GREAT both days to get a huge win. It felt really good, all the guys played well to get a team win and a tie for the individual win between Russel and Brendan,” said Coach Zach Smith. “Every tournament in the region this year is going to be tight, so we need to bring it both days like we did this week if we want to win the Region 9 championship again this year. The guys know that and we are working hard to keep things going. We are excited to try and finish the season strong in La Junta next week.”
Sophomores Russel Sprecher and Brendan Thomas tied for the tournament win. Sprecher shot 71, 69 – 140 and Thomas shot 75, 65 – 140. Other Lancer scores were as follows:
Remington Newell – sophomore, Spanish Fork, UT, 70, 71 – 141 – tied 3rd
Joshua Wiese – freshman, Cape Town, South Africa, 73, 69 – 142 – 5th
Johannes Lindstrom – freshman, Falkoping, Sweden, 71, 73 – 144 – tied 6th
Oscar Behle – freshman, Hjarup, Sweden, 75, 73 – 148 – tied 16th
The Lancers will conclude their fall season at the Otero Junior College tournament October 7-8.
