EWC Golfers Win Otero Tournament
The Eastern Wyoming College golf team won top honors at the Otero College Tournament, held Sept. 28-29 in La Junta, Colorado. The Lancers had six golfers finishing in the top 15.
Braylon Bingham, freshman, from Cedar City, UT, finished in a tie for second place with fellow team mate Tytan Birchell, freshman, from Roosevelt, UT with a +2. EWC’s Joshua Chapman, freshman, Redruth, England, finished in a tie for sixth place with a +3, while sophomore Ryker Dunkley, American Fork, UT, finished in a tie for ninth place with a +4.
The Lancers won the tournament with a +7, followed by Otero College in second with a +19.
“We had a very strong first day in La Junta, shooting -6 as a team. This was the first time four of the guys were seeing the course so I was pleased with their effort. Especially freshman Braylon Bingham and Tytan Birchell, who led the team at -3 and -2 after day 1,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. “The second day resulted in higher scoring averages for the entire field.”
Otero Community College’s Agustin Pizzorno won the tournament with a -1.
Lancer golfers Taiki Sugawara, Aizuwakamatsu, Japan, and Leander Suttka, Berlin, Germany, also competed in the tournament.
“The guys played well enough both days to win by double digits. It was a great end to the week and we are looking forward to playing in Lamar, Colorado October 5-6,” Smith said.
