The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team had a strong showing at the Ropin’ and Riggin’ Days hosted in Casper, Wyoming, with eight Lancer athletes advancing to the short go round on Sunday.
Lancer Sophomore Carter Anderson, of Merriman, Nebraska, led the charge with impressive performances in both tie-down roping and team roping. Anderson clocked a 9.7-second run in the long go of tie-down roping, placing second. On Sunday, he followed up with a 10.3-second run to secure second in the average. In team roping, Anderson partnered with fellow sophomore and EWC teammate Dalton Moore, posting a 7.2-second long-go time to place first and second, respectively. The duo finished fifth in the average. Anderson also earned the title of Reserve All-Around Cowboy for the weekend.
Lancer Teagan Gourneau, a sophomore from Presho, South Dakota, also had a standout weekend, advancing in both of his events. In steer wrestling, Gourneau posted a 5.4-second run in the long go, placing fifth. He went on to finish eighth in the average. Teaming up with Mckayla Wray of Chadron State College in team roping, the pair posted a 9.2-second run to take fifth in the long go. They delivered an 8.6-second run in the short go—one of only four teams to post a qualified run—earning second in the average.
In the roughstock events, freshman Trey Tuplin, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, qualified for the short go in saddle bronc riding. Tuplin scored 65 points in the long go, placing ninth, and finished ninth in the average.
Freshman Cian Daly, from Killaly, Saskatchewan, represented the Lancers in bareback riding. Daly posted a 57-point ride in the long go to place seventh and followed it with a 70-point ride in the short go, finishing seventh in the average.
In goat tying, freshman Abby Collen, of Virden, Manitoba, ran a 7.4-second time in the long go to place sixth. Despite a tough run in the short go, she finished seventh in the average with an 18.5-second run.
