EWC Rodeo Team Competes at Casper College Ropin’ and Riggin’ Days
CASPER, Wyo. – The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team competed April 17-19 at the Casper College Ropin’ and Riggin’ Days held at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds in Casper.
In saddle bronc riding, EWC sophomore Sawyer Hutchinson turned in a strong performance, placing sixth in the long round with a 69-point ride. He followed with a 71-point ride in the short round, finishing fourth in the round and fourth in the average.
Lancer Clay Nyhus also had a solid showing in saddle bronc riding, posting a combined score of 121 on two head. Nyhus placed fifth in the short round and fifth in the average.
In steer wrestling, sophomores Eli Leppell and Teagan Gourneau advanced to the short round after strong preliminary runs. Both competitors faced tough breaks in the finals, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.
The Lancers battled through a challenging weekend of competition but remain focused on the final rodeo of the season at the Laramie River Rendezvous. Several team members are still in contention to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo this summer.
