EWC Rodeo Team Competes at Skyline Stampede
The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team had a strong showing at the Skyline Stampede, hosted by Colorado State University in Loveland, Colorado, with four Lancer athletes advancing to the short go on Sunday.
Lancer Kennedy McLellan, a sophomore from Oglala, South Dakota, led the way in barrel racing. McLellan posted a time of 15.44 seconds in both the long and short go-rounds, placing third in each and finishing third in the average for the weekend.
In breakaway roping, sophomore Jace Hurlburt of Arcadia, Nebraska, recorded a 2.8-second run in the long go to place seventh. Hurlburt improved slightly in the short go with a 2.7-second run, which earned her third place in the average.
On the rough stock side, freshman Clay Nyhus from Saskatchewan, Canada, turned in a 75-point ride in saddle bronc riding to split the win in the long round. Nyhus finished 10th in the average.
In bareback riding, freshman Cian Daly of Killaly, Saskatchewan, scored 64 points on Friday to place eighth in the long go.
The Lancer women’s team finished fifth overall with 75 team points.
Eastern Wyoming College will compete next at the Casper College Rodeo, scheduled for April 11–13. With only two rodeos remaining this season, the Lancers are looking to finish strong.
