EWC SkillsUSA welding fabrication team wins first at state competition

The Eastern Wyoming College SkillsUSA Welding Fabrication teams competed in the state Weld Fabrication competition that was held at Gillette College April 5-6. Gillette College hosts the state’s Welding Fabrication and Diesel Mechanics competitions for SkillsUSA.

EWC Team # 1 members were: Spencer Kellner, Cheyenne, WY; Jacob Fogg, Cheyenne, WY; and Ridge Anderson, Dunning, NE. EWC Team #2 members were: Chris Zamora, Douglas, WY; Tyler Workman, Cheyenne, WY; and Brady Kersey, Gordon, NE.

Team #1 was awarded the gold medal for 1st place post-secondary team in Welding Fabrication. Team #2 placed 5th with a great project and great teamwork.

“We really had great success and will have students returning next year to compete again,” said Stan Nicolls, EWC Welding and Machining Instructor and SkillsUSA advisor.

The 1st place team, Team #1, will advance to compete at the National SkillsUSA competition which will be held in Louisville, KY, June 24-28.

The next SkillsUSA Leadership Conference will be held in Casper April 15-17 where EWC will have 5 individual welding students competing in a skills test of cutting and welding as well as taking a written test and participating in a job interview competition.
