Eastern Wyoming College to Offer 3D Printing First Steps Class

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Eastern Wyoming College will offer a hands-on 3D Printing — First Step class designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D slicer software. The class will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the CTEC 137 Computer Lab. The cost is $100, with a minimum enrollment of five participants required. Instruction will be led by Joel Alworth, head of EWC’s Welding Department, who will guide students through the basics of designing 3D models and preparing them for printing using a variety of free CAD and slicer programs. The course is designed for beginners and hobbyists interested in learning how to turn ideas into printable designs. “3D printing is more accessible than ever, but the real power comes from knowing how to design your own parts,” Alworth said. “This class gives students the confidence to use free software tools and take that first step from concept to a finished product.” With the growing affordability of resin and filament printers, 3D printing has become increasingly popular for home, hobby and educational use. While the class does not include printing during the session, participants who complete the design portion may schedule an appointment at the EWC Makerspace to print their projects.
