EWC wins first tournament of the season; Sprecher brings home individual win
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team began their season in Riverton, Wyoming, August 26-27 with a tournament hosted by Central Wyoming College. The Lancers won the two-day tournament with a team score of 572. Northeastern Junior College placed second with a score of 593.
“It was a great way to start our season, especially when we came out with an opening round of -7 as a team on Thursday,” said Coach Zach Smith. “Region IX golf looks very good this year, so we’ll have to play solid golf each week if we want to compete for another Region IX championship. Russel played great both days to bring home the individual win, which is how he opened the season last year too. I think we have a great group of students and I can’t wait to work together as a team this year.”
Leading the Lancers with an individual win was sophomore Russel Sprecher, Casper, WY, who shot 69 on Thursday, and 70 on Friday for a 139. Other Lancer scores were as follows:
Brendan Thomas, sophomore, Farmington – UT, 67, 73 – 140, 2nd
Oscar Behle, freshman, Hjarup, Sweden – 71, 73 – 144, tied 3rd
Johannes Lindstrom, sophomore, Falkoping, Sweden – 75, 75 – 150, 8th
Conrado Chozas, sophomore, Madrid, Spain – 78, 73 – 151, tied 9th
Joshua Wiese, freshman, Cape Town, South Africa – 74, 78 – 152, tied 11th
The Lancers will play in McCook, NE September 2-3.
