EWC wins season opener tournament
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team began their fall tournament season with a win at the annual Central Wyoming College tournament held in Riverton, WY, August 29-30. The Lancers won the tournament with a score of 584, 30 strokes better than McCook Community College who finished in 2nd place with a score of 614.
“I don’t think we could ask for a whole lot more from our first tournament of the year. All 6 guys played well which led to a team win and all of our guys gaining points toward all region honors,” said Coach Zach Smith. “It was fun to have both Lucas and Mason play so well on the first day. I was pleased that they were both able to finish the tournament even or under par. We’ve got a strong mix of freshman and sophomores that we’ll need as we battle some talented teams in Region 9 golf.”
Leading the Lancers and winning the tournament was freshman Lucas Howell, Colorado Springs, CO who shot 67, 74 for a total of 141. Other Lancer scores were as follows:
Mason Hale, sophomore, Atkinson, NE, 69, 75 – 144, 2nd
JoVin Tan, sophomore, Taiping, Malaysia, 76, 72 – 148, 3rd
Eric Stevens, sophomore, Bridgeport, NE, 73, 76 – 149, 4th
RJ Moya, sophomore, Three Rivers, TX, 76, 75 – 151, tied 5th
Tomas Kubata, freshman, Prague, Czech Republic, 77, 75 – 152, 7th
The Lancers will host their home tournament at Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course on September 5-6.
