Gorsuch Wins Steer Wrestling as EWC Rodeo Team Wraps Up Regular Season at UW Rodeo

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Eastern Wyoming College’s rodeo team closed out its regular season strong this past weekend at the University of Wyoming Rodeo, highlighted by a win in steer wrestling from Taydon Gorsuch of Gering, Nebraska.

Gorsuch, a sophomore, kicked off the weekend with a sharp 4.3-second run in the long go, then improved to a 4.1 on Sunday, securing first place in the average for the weekend.

In breakaway roping, sophomore Jace Hurlburt of Arcadia, Nebraska, posted an impressive 1.9-second run to win the long go. Despite a tough break in the short round that placed her sixth in the average, her performance marked a strong finish to the season. Freshman Tommie Martin added to the effort with a 2.2-second run, tying for fifth through ninth in the long go and finishing third in the average after a consistent 2.9-second run in the short round.

Freshman Abby Collen of Manitoba, Canada, showed consistency in goat tying, running a 7.3 in the long round to tie for sixth through eighth. She followed that with a 7.5-second run in the short go, landing her sixth in the average.

In tie-down roping, Colton Zimmerman of Wellington, Colorado, clocked a 9.9-second long round to sit fourth entering the finals. His 12.2-second short go placed him sixth overall for the weekend.

Freshman Cian Daly of Killaly, Saskatchewan, represented EWC in bareback riding, scoring 66 points in the long go and 68 in the short round, finishing eighth in the average. In saddle bronc riding, freshman Trey Shadlock posted a 77-point ride to tie for seventh in the long go, followed by a 66-point ride in the short round to place eighth.

In team roping, sophomore Wyatt Hajny and his partner Teige Whitham of LCCC turned in a 9.6-second run in the long go and placed eighth in the average for the weekend.

The EWC women’s team finished fourth overall at the UW Rodeo, while the men’s team placed ninth. Coaches and athletes expressed gratitude to their supporters and are looking forward to returning strong next season.
