Jensen qualifies for CNFR, Men’s team wins CSU rodeo
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo team competed in Greeley, CO April 30th, May 1-2 for the annual rodeo hosted by Colorado State University. Sophomore Cameron Jensen, Bingham, NE, placed 2nd in the average of the Tie Down roping which clinched his qualification for the College National Finals Rodeo to be held in Casper, WY in June. Jensen finished the season as the Reserve Champion Tie Down roper.
“It was great to see many of our students finish off the season strong,” said Coach Jake Clark. “Dalton and Canton dominated the team roping. What a great way to finish your college rodeo career. Cameron earned a trip to the CNFR. He competed really well, going from 5th to the Reserve Champion Tie Down roper at the final rodeo. He has been consistent all spring and we are looking forward to him competing at the CNFR in June.”
The sophomore team roping team of Dalton Wieneke, West Point, NE and Canton Afdahl, Torrington, WY, won the first round, short round and average of the team roping with a total time of 13.3 on two steers.
Clark added, “Our men’s team won the team title at the CSU rodeo thanks to the strong showing from our ropers.”
Jensen also placed 5th in the first round of the steer wrestling.
In the barrel racing, sophomore Shay Hough, Gillette, WY, placed 4th in the short round and 4th in the average.
The Lancers have wrapped up the spring season. The CNFR will be held June 11-19 in Casper, WY.
