Lancer Rodeo Team Excels in Lamar

Eastern Wyoming College’s rodeo team made the long trek to Lamar, Colorado, for a weekend of windy rodeo action, where the Lancer women stole the spotlight with standout performances.

Freshman Kianna Miller dominated the breakaway roping, winning the long round with a blazing 2.4-second run. Despite some tough luck in the short round, Miller finished fifth in the average, earning 65 points for the weekend.

Fellow freshman and South Dakota native Tava Sexton impressed in the barrel racing, posting a 17.82 in the long round to place fifth, followed by an 18.08 in the short round to finish seventh overall. Sexton added 30 points to the Lancers’ team total.

In the men’s competition, Canadian cowboy Clay Nyhus delivered solid performances in the saddle bronc riding, scoring 72 points in the long round to split sixth and seventh. He followed with a 69-point ride in the short round to finish fifth overall, earning 38.33 points.

“We’re really proud of the way our athletes handled a challenging weekend,” said EWC Rodeo Coach Whit Peterson. “The conditions were tough, but our team showed grit, focus, and consistency. It’s exciting to see our freshmen stepping up and putting points on the board.”

The Lancers will wrap up their fall season this weekend at the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo in Cheyenne.
