Lancers Finish Strong at Home Rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo Team had their hometown advantage this weekend at the Lancer Rodeo held in Torrington, Wyoming. Over the weekend eight Lancer athletes made it back to short go Sunday.
Lancer Griffin Grooms, a Freshman from Oglala, South Dakota had a great weekend in barrel racing. In
the long go, Grooms had a 15.45 second run, tying her for third and fourth in the long go with another EWC Lancer Isabelle Camino a sophomore from Buffalo, Wyoming. In the short go the freshman kept it consistent with a 15.41 placing her 3rd in the average for the weekend.
“It was a good weekend,” Grooms said of her performance.
Lancer Isabelle Camino had a 15.69 in the short go, placing her 7th on the weekend. Teammate Camryn Kocian, a sophomore from Brainard, Nebraska had a great start to the weekend with 15.54 second run in the long go and after having some tough luck in the short go Kocian ended up 9th in the average for the weekend.
In the Calf Roping Lancer Carter Anderson the Lancer from Merriman, Nebraska put down a 10.1 second run to land him 6th coming into the short go. On Sunday Anderson had a 11.6 second run placing
him 3rd in the average.
It was a great weekend on the rough stock end for the EWC Lancers. In the Saddle Bronc Riding two of our EWC Lancers qualified for short go Sunday. Trey Tuplin, a Freshman from Swift Current, Saskatchewan scored a 65-point ride in the long round to place him 7th and 8th, in the short round the Freshman had a 57-point ride to place him 6th in the average for the weekend. Trey Shadlock, also a Freshman from Big River, Saskatchewan, had a 70-point ride in the long go and a 75-point ride in the short go to place him 3rd in the average for the weekend.
“It was a great pen of horses, it was a great weekend, and just focused on all gas, no brakes,” Shadlock said.
In the Bareback riding Cian Daly, a Freshman from Killaly, Saskatchewan scored a 69-point ride
on Friday to place him 5th in the long go.
Lancer Eli Leppell, a freshman from Keene, North Dakota had a great weekend in the Bull Riding, on
Friday night the Freshman won the long go with a 75-point ride, which was good enough to land
him the average for hometown cowboy.
“It was a good weekend to represent our hometown rodeo,” Leppell said.
For the weekend the Lancer men’s team placed 4th for the weekend with 325 team points. It was a great weekend for the EWC Lancers hometown rodeo, according to Lancer head rodeo coach Whit Peterson.
“I’m proud of our whole team. It’s a team effort to put together a rodeo,” Peterson said. “We competed well and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
The Lancers will be competing next at the Skyline Stampede, Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, April 4-6.
