Lancers win Otero golf tournament to wrap up fall season
The Eastern Wyoming College golf team completed the fall season with the Otero Junior College tournament held October 7-8. The Lancers won the tournament with a score of 558. McCook Community College was second with 567.
“The guys played insanely well on Thursday, all 6 guys shot level or under par. I think that was the first time that we’ve done that since I started coaching over 8 years ago,” said Coach Zach Smith. “They followed it up with a solid day-two to get the team win and Russel walked away with the individual win. Getting some wins, the last two weeks has been huge in the overall battle for another region 9 championship and a possible birth to our 8th straight national championship appearance. We’ll work hard in the gym, in the classroom and on the course when weather permits this off-season to maintain momentum going into the spring season.”
Leading the Lancers and winning the tournament was sophomore Russel Sprecher from Casper, WY. Sprecher shot 66, 72 – 138. Other Lancer scores were as follows:
Conrado Chozas, sophomore, Madrid, Spain – 69, 70- 139, 2nd
Joshua Wiese, freshman, Cape Town, South Africa – 70, 70 – 140, 3rd
Johannes Lindstrom, sophomore, Falkoping, Sweden – 70, 71 – 141, tied 4th
Brendan Thomas, sophomore, Farmington, UT – 70, 73 – 143, 8th
Remington Newell, sophomore, Spanish Fork, UT – 69, 78 – 147, tied 11th
The Lancers will begin their spring season March 24-25 in Lamar, CO.
