Lancers Win Region IX Championship
Eastern Wyoming College’s Volleyball team won the Region IX Championship Saturday, Nov. 9, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is the teams first Region IX Championship since 1994.
“I was excited for them,” Lancer head volleyball coach George Hamilton said of the win. “I have great respect for them. They have worked so hard in practice and work together like family. That’s what has led to the ladies making the run that we have.”
The Lancers played three matches and won all nine sets. Their first win came against McCook Community College, the second against Central Wyoming College, and they finished their run by beating Laramie County Community College.
Several members of the team also received awards and they are as follows:
Boden Liljedahl- Region WVP, Region Libero of the Year, First Team All-Region, and Region Tournament MVP
Una Stepic- 2nd Team All Region
Siale Unufe- 1st Team All Region
Belle; Dolan- 1st Team All Region
Una Stepic, Siale Unufe and Amarie Huntsman – All Tournament Team
The Lancers will take on the nation’s number one team, Florida Southwestern State College in their opening match in the NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Championship on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. CT in Clarksville, Tennessee. Florida Southwestern State College is the two-time defending National Champions.
The competition is a double elimination tournament. If the ladies win, they will move on to the 7 p.m. CT on Nov. 21. If they lose they will compete at 1 p.m. also on Nov. 21.
