NJCAA announcement places restriction on part of Lancer golf season

March 13, 2020

Eastern Wyoming College has been notified of the following by the NJCAA National Office (partial excerpt, full text available online at ewc.wy.edu/alerts):

“After reviewing and evaluating all of the feedback and information from our membership and regional leadership, the NJCAA is suspending all competition beginning Saturday, March 14th through Friday, April 3rd. The NJCAA Board of Regents will meet on April 3rd as previously scheduled and an update from the National Office will be provided with a full assessment of the national landscape. Should conditions improve, regions and individual colleges will be allowed to resume regular-season competition in a format and time period following April 3rd that has been approved by the region. During this entire “no competition” period, practice standards are determined by the individual colleges.

The NJCAA is also extending the date of April 3rd to April 10th for colleges to evaluate their seasons for potential hardships that fall under the 60.0% of the season completion ruling. These scenarios will greatly vary by sport. The deadline only applies to those CANCELING their seasons of which individuals have already participated prior to the cutoff date of April 10th.”

This communication from the NJCAA will suspend the first three tournaments for the Lancer Golf Team which are Otero Junior College, March 19-20, Lamar Community College March 26-27, and McCook Community College April 2-3. At this time, the Lancers will still compete at their home tournament April 9-10, the Central Wyoming College tournament April 16-17 and the Northeastern Junior College tournament April 23-24. Prior to the NJCAA announcement, Otero Junior College had announced the cancelation of their tournament scheduled for March 19-20. More details will become available after the NJCAA meetings to be held on April 3rd.
