Thompson leads Lancers at Casper College Rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo team competed in the Casper College annual rodeo April 19-21. Sophomore Jacey Thompson, Yoder, WY, won the breakaway roping in her quest for a second qualification to the College National Finals Rodeo.

Thompson split 4th in the first round with a time of 2.8 and won the short round with a 2.4 second run. She won the average for the weekend. In the goat tying, she was 2nd in the first round with a time of 6.8 seconds. Teammate Karissa Rayhill, sophomore, Martin, SD, was 6th in the first round and average of the goat tying.

In the Steer Wrestling, freshman Chadron Coffield, Yuma, CO, tied for 3rd in the average. Talon Mathis, freshman, Atkinson, NE, was 4th in the average. Freshman Teigen Marchant, Newcastle, WY, won the first round with a time of 3.8 seconds.

Sophomore Brendan Butterfield, Richardton, ND, was 2nd in the first round of tie down roping and 4th in the average. Colton Reed, sophomore, Wiley, CO, qualified for the short round.

Ty Chasek, freshman, Mitchell, NE, was 4th in the first round of team roping with partner Cord Roberts, LCCC.

Thompson is currently 1st in the Central Rocky Mountain regional All-Around standings, 2nd in Breakaway Roping, and 4th in Goat Tying. Rayhill is 3rd in Goat Tying. Brooke Glass, sophomore, Sidney, NE, is in a 3-way tie for 8th in the Breakaway Roping. The Women’s team is in 2nd place.

Coffield is leading the regional Tie Down Roping standings and sophomore Braden Pirrung, Hartford, SD, is 4th in the Team Roping –Heading standings.

The Lancers will compete in the final rodeo of the season April 26-28 in Laramie, WY. Several student-athletes are in contention for regional titles and CNFR qualifications.
