Wyoming’s First Lady Visits EWC Food Pantry

Wyoming’s First Lady, Jennie Gordon, visited the Food Pantry at Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) on Thursday, Feb. 20.

“I love how user-friendly it is,” Gordon said, praising the pantry, which is located in the Student Success Center on EWC’s Torrington Campus.

The pantry is supported by donations from EWC faculty and staff, local churches, college clubs, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the Rotary Club. These contributions are used to purchase food to stock the pantry, ensuring that students have access to nutritious options.

“We partner with the Food Bank of Wyoming and the Cent$ible Nutrition Program, led by Crystal Zerbe. The Cent$ible Nutrition Program is a class at EWC that meets once a week for eight weeks and teaches students how to prepare meals with common pantry items,” explained Sergio Mendez, EWC Student Success/Testing Center Director.

Another notable contribution came from Southeast High School student, Rico Ramirez, who donated his first-place prize-winning pork from the Goshen County Fair. The pork was processed through Bear Mountain Beef and then donated to the EWC Student Pantry.

“The food pantry is very helpful. The food and snacks are great,” said EWC sophomore Braylon Bingham. “There are probably 20-30 students who take advantage of the pantry every day.”
