Administrative Regulation:  Admission of Students

Regulation Number:  5.0.1

_____________________________________________________________________________________

As per Board policy, Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) is an equal opportunity institution. The College prohibits discrimination in its practices, programs, and activities. All students wishing to enroll in degree seeking or non-degree seeking coursework who meet the minimum age limit and other admission requirements, listed below, shall be considered for acceptance to EWC. The college is committed to maintaining an environment free from discrimination, sexual or other harassment and retaliation.

Definitions:

Official Transcripts:  A sealed document prepared and sent by the issuing institution, usually by the registrar, with an original signature and on official letterhead and also includes electronic transcripts from verified vendors. This document is a certified record (inventory) of a student throughout a course of study having full enrollment history including all courses (or subjects) attempted, grades earned and degrees and awards conferred.

Student Types

Degree or Certificate Seeking Students
Persons applying for a degree or certificate program must do the following:

  1. Complete an application for admission to EWC.
  2. Submit official transcripts from the last accredited high school and previous colleges attended. (Students may be admitted with at least six (6) semesters of high school coursework showing on an unofficial transcript. However, EWC must receive an official final high school transcript before Title IV aid will be transmitted to the student’s account.) All official and final transcripts are required to be sent directly to the EWC Admission office sealed from the high school or post-secondary institution for confirmation and evaluation of transfer students (where applicable). All submitted transcripts become EWC’s property and will not be returned to the student, even if the student does not enroll.

Students who have not completed high school may enroll conditionally in a degree program and must complete high school equivalency credential, by the time they are halfway through the degree program. Students who have been homeschooled, or have attended non-accredited high schools, must have completed a home-based educational program that meets the requirements of a basic education program as defined in W.S. 21-4-101 et seq. (https://wyleg.gov /statutes /compress/title21.pdf), or have completed a high school equivalency certificate accepted by the state in which the certificate was earned.

If EWC has reason to believe that the high school diploma is not valid or was not obtained from an entity that provides secondary school education (per 34 CFR 668.16(p)), the following process will be followed:

  1. EWC will request and receive documentation from the secondary school that confirms the validity of the student’s diploma, AND

  1. EWC will confirm with or received documentation from the relevant department or agency in the state in which the secondary school is located that the secondary school is recognized as a provider of secondary school education.

  1. Nursing Program: If enrolling in the EWC Nursing program, students must contact the Nursing Department and fill out the program application in addition to the regular EWC application form. Acceptance into EWC does not ensure acceptance into the Nursing program.

  1. Gunsmithing Program: If enrolling in the EWC Gunsmithing program, students must complete the program application in addition to the regular EWC application form. Acceptance into EWC does not ensure acceptance into the Gunsmithing program.

  1. International students must fulfill specific admissions requirements. Those requirements are contained in the Policy 5.9 Admission of International Students, and Regulation 5.9.1.

When the above requirements are fulfilled and validated, EWC will send the student a letter of acceptance. EWC gives conditional acceptance to students who do not have high school or equivalency, or who cannot provide a college transcript because they are currently enrolled at another institution.

Note: Students who have officially or unofficially withdrawn from EWC and not attended for a period of one year or more, will be required to complete and submit a new admission application. Students who have attended another post-secondary institution while on hiatus will be considered transfer students.

Non-degree Seeking Students
Non-degree students are those who take credit courses but are not working toward a degree or certificate. These students are required to apply for non-degree admission. However, should the student decide to pursue a certificate or degree and wish to apply for financial aid, that student MUST apply for degree-seeking admission and follow the Degree-Seeking Student section in this process.

High School Students
High school students, age 16 or older, who are enrolled in Wyoming high schools may take college credit courses concurrently or as a part of dual enrollment or jumpstart programs. These students must submit a high school student registration form signed by the appropriate high school officials, parents or guardians, appropriate college officials and meet other eligibility criteria as established by the College and the school district.

Non-Credit Students
These are students taking non-credit courses: either Continuing Education courses for developing vocational skills, Community Service courses for personal enrichment, or Industrial Training courses. These students fill out a non-credit registration form.
