Administrative Regulation: Admission of Students
Regulation Number: 5.0.1

As per Board policy, Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) is an equal opportunity institution. The College prohibits discrimination in its practices, programs, and activities. All students wishing to enroll in degree seeking or non-degree seeking coursework who meet the minimum age limit and other admission requirements, listed below, shall be considered for acceptance to EWC. The college is committed to maintaining an environment free from discrimination, sexual or other harassment and retaliation.

Definitions:
Official Transcript: This document shall be a certified record (inventory) of a student throughout a course of study having full enrollment history including all courses (or subjects) attempted, grades earned and degrees and awards conferred.

Degree or Certificate Seeking Students
Persons applying for a degree or certificate program must do the following:

a. Complete an application for admission to EWC.

b. Request official, final transcripts showing proof of high school completion and transcripts from all previous colleges attended (except EWC). Students may be admitted with at least six (6) semesters of high school coursework showing on an unofficial transcript. However, EWC must receive an official final high school transcript before Title IV aid will be transmitted to the student’s account. All official and final transcripts are required to be sent directly to the EWC Admissions office from the high school or post-secondary institution for confirmation of validity and evaluation. All submitted transcripts become EWC’s property and will not be returned to the student, even if the student does not enroll.

Students who have been homeschooled, or have attended non-accredited high schools, must have completed a home-based educational program that meets the requirements of a basic education program in the state it was completed or have completed a high school equivalency certificate accepted by
the state in which the certificate was earned.

c. Some programs/courses require test scores. Test scores are not a requirement for Admission to EWC. If test scores are required in order to enroll in a program/course, EWC accepts ACT, SAT or Accuplacer scores. These may be submitted directly from the applicant.

If EWC has reason to believe that the high school diploma is not valid or was not obtained from an
entity that provides secondary school education (per 34 CFR 668.16(p)), the following process will
be followed (See A.R. 5.0.2 for further information):

  1. EWC will request and receive documentation from the secondary school that confirms the validity
    of the student’s diploma, AND
  2. EWC will confirm with or receive documentation from the relevant department or agency in the
state in which the secondary school is located that the secondary school is recognized as
a provider of secondary school education.

Admission Notification
EWC will notify the student of acceptance to the college. EWC gives conditional acceptance to students who have not yet completed high school or an equivalency or cannot provide a final college transcript because they are currently enrolled at another institution. Students will not be considered fully admitted until all of the above requirements are fulfilled and validated.

Active and Inactive Students
Students who are not active at Eastern Wyoming College for two subsequent semesters (i.e. fall and spring) will be inactivated and must submit a new application for Admission and adhere to all admission requirements. Catalog requirements are determined by the catalog year in which a student is first admitted, provided the student either remains active or maintains continuous enrollment. Continuous enrollment is defined as enrollment in at least one credit-bearing course during a (fall or spring) semester each calendar year.

A student is considered active if enrolled in at least one credit-bearing course during a semester.
• Degree-seeking students who do not enroll at least once in two consecutive semesters (fall and spring) will be categorized as inactive.
• Inactive students must submit a new application for admission and adhere to the associated admissions requirements prior to returning.
• Continuous enrollment (for catalog retention purposes) is defined as enrollment in at least one course each academic year; inactive students returning after two semesters will be placed under current catalog requirements unless otherwise specified.

Non-degree Seeking Students

Non-degree students are those who take credit courses but are not working toward a degree or certificate. These students are required to complete the non-degree application for admission. Should the student decide to pursue a certificate or degree and wish to apply for financial aid, that student must apply for degree-seeking admission and follow the Degree or Certificate Seeking Students process.

High School Students

High school students, who are enrolled in Wyoming high schools may take college credit courses concurrently or as a part of dual enrollment or jumpstart programs. These students must submit a high school student registration form signed by the appropriate high school officials, parents or guardians, appropriate college officials and meet other eligibility criteria as established by the College and the school district.

Non-Credit Students

These are students taking non-credit courses: either Continuing Education courses for developing vocational skills, Community Service courses for personal enrichment, or Industrial Training courses. Students seeking to audit for-credit courses or those interested in the Commercial Driver’s License program should complete the non-degree seeking application. Those interested in Community Education courses should follow the procedure for enrolling in those courses.
