EWC women’s team reserve champions, headed to CNFR
For the second year in a row, the Eastern Wyoming College women’s rodeo team has qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR). They finished the season as reserved champions in the Central Rocky Mountain Region.
“Very proud of our women’s team to qualify two years in a row in this tough region,” said Coach Jake Clark. “This is a great accomplishment. All of our qualifiers should be very competitive at nationals.”
Sophomore Jacey Thompson, Yoder, WY, qualified in the breakaway roping and goat tying. She also finished the season as the Reserve All-Around Champion.
Teammate Karissa Rayhill, sophomore, Martin, SD, qualified in the breakaway roping and goat tying as well. This is the second CNFR qualification for both Rayhill and Thompson.
Rounding out the women’s team is sophomore Brooke Glass, Sidney, NE, who will compete in the breakaway roping. This is her first qualification.
Freshman Chadron Coffield, Yuma, CO, who led the region most of the year, won the title in the tie down roping.
Individual results from the University of Wyoming rodeo, outside of the CNFR qualifications are listed below.
Rayhill won the average in the goat tying with times of 6.4 and 6.9 seconds. Thompson finished 3rd in the average.
Freshman Kurtis Palmer, Madison, NE, won the team roping average with partner Brady Joseph from Chadron State College. Colton Reed, sophomore, Wiley, CO, qualified for the short round.
Torrington sophomore Garrett Murphy, was 4th in the first round of the tie down roping.
The CNFR will be held in Casper, WY, June 9-15.
