EWC wins awards at Wyoming Lifelong Learning Association Conference

EWC President Dr. Tom Armstrong presents Connie Woehl with her award from the Wyoming Lifelong Learning Association at a recent Board of Trustees meeting.The annual conference of Wyoming Lifelong Learning Association (WLLA) was recently held in Casper. As part of the conference each year, several individuals are recognized for their outstanding service. Many individuals from Eastern Wyoming College were recognized for their outstanding commitment to lifelong learning.
Connie Woehl, Associate Dean for Outreach and Learning received the commendation for Outstanding Regional Leader for the State of Wyoming. “This is the highest award that Connie could have received from WLLA” said Diane McQueen. Woehl was recognized for her tireless efforts of encouraging students to not give up on their dreams.
Klancie Britton, Moorcroft, Wyoming, was named the Outstanding ABE/GED/ESL Educator for Wyoming. She serves both Moorcroft and Upton.
Rocio Nesbitt, Torrington, Wyoming, received the Outstanding Adult Life Long Learner award.
Also Cathy Riddle, the English as a Second Language instructor in Wheatland won the Outstanding Service Award from Head Start in May 2009.
Diane McQueen, Director of ABE in Torrington and Kim Conzelman, Newcastle Outreach Coordinator are Executive Board Members of WLLA.

2009 Christmas Concert at Eastern Wyoming College

Eastern Wyoming College presents The Season of Light Christmas Concert. The concert will take place Thursday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium at EWC. Featured this year are the EWC Community Chorus directed by Donna Krieger and the Guernsey-Sunrise High School Concert and Jazz Choirs directed by Jerry Sellers. The concert will close with the combination of all choirs singing the traditional carol “A Merry Christmas”.

ETSS Grant Assists C.N.A. Students

Eastern Wyoming College recently had a group of students complete a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course. Many of those students were able to complete with the help of the Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency Grant (ETSS).
The ETSS grant helps qualifying students with expenses related to tuition and fees, books, supplies and will also help with daycare expenses and certification expenses. The class that recently concluded had 12 students and 7 of those students were able to take advantage of this grant program.
Students were also presented information from Gilbert Servantez, Workforce Services, on how to find a job and the other services available through his department. Representatives from Banner Health also met with students to discuss employment opportunities available.

EWC Offering Study Abroad Opportunity

Eastern Wyoming College is offering students the opportunity to travel to Italy to study art in the summer of 2010. The Department of Art and Honors Program will be offering Studio Art and Visual Culture courses in Toblach-Dobbiaco, Italy.
The courses will take place over a four week period from June 21 – July 29, 2010. The first week is preparatory class to prepare for the trip. Course offerings include ART 1050-01, Beginning Drawing; ART 1060, Drawing 2; ART 2210 Beginning Painting, ART 2220 Painting 2; and HP 2151, Honors Sophomore Seminar, Honors Topic: European Visual Cultures from 1900 to Present.
Informational sessions will be held for students interested registering for these courses. The first will be held on Wednesday, November 18 at 6:00 pm in the EWC Board Room and Friday, November 20 at noon in the Fine Arts Lecture Hall (Auditorium). Community members are also encouraged to attend and may audit the courses. Community members could also attend only part of the trip if it was more convenient.

EWC to Hold Technology Day

Eastern Wyoming College will be hosting the annual Technology Day event to be held on the main campus in Torrington on Thursday, November 12. Nearly 150 students are preregistered for the event. Most students are juniors and seniors and will be attending from Burns, Gering, Glendo, Glenrock, Hulett, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Niobrara County, Ogallala, Pine Bluffs, Scottsbluff, Upton and Wheatland.
Students have pre-registered into hands-on sessions covering the following topics: construction technology, cosmetology, criminal justice, welding, computer networking and machine tooling. This has been a very popular event for the college and spots fill up quickly. Students will be arriving in the morning, participating in their sessions and will then be treated to lunch before they return home.
