EWC presents Gabe and Jody Lopez "White Gold Laborers"

This presentation will be held in the Eastern Wyoming College Fine Arts Auditorium on September 21, 2011 at 7 pm and is free and open to the public. The Lopez’s presentation tells the social and cultural history of the sugar beet laborers who developed residential Colonies sponsored by the Great Western Sugar Company starting in 1919.
Gabe and Jody Lopez are a husband-and-wife team whose initial interest in researching family history snowballed into documentation of Greeley’s Spanish colony and of the Rocky Mountain League of the National Semi-Pro Baseball Congress. The work of the Lopez’s has resulted in a museum exhibit, two books, and the gathering of a remarkable set of stories that have great significance for the Rocky Mountain region and the Latino community. Gabe and Jody were finalists for the 2009 Colorado Rockies Hispanic Adult leadership Award.
“White Gold Laborers” is presented by the Wyoming Humanities Council as part of its Humanities Forum.
The Wyoming Humanities Council provides public humanities-based programs in partnership with local organizations and is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
