EWC wins home golf tournament

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancers hosted their spring golf tournament in Torrington on April 22-23. The Lancers won the tournament with a score of 567. McCook Community College was second with 612.

Tomas Kubata“We had two great weather days for our tournament and the guys took advantage of it,” said Coach Zach Smith. “Overall the whole team played well, it was a great way to take advantage of our home course advantage. It felt great to shoot -9 as a team. The guys at the golf course did a great job of getting the course in terrific shape. We are excited to head to Riverton this week for our last Region IX tournament of the year.”

Taking first place for the two-day tournament was sophomore leader Tomas Kubata from Prague, Czech Republic. Kubata shot 70 each day for 140 and the first place finish. Other Lancer scores were as follows:

EWC rodeo results from UW rodeo

The Lancer rodeo team competed in Laramie, WY, April 23-25 for the annual rodeo hosted by the University of Wyoming.

Sophomore Shay Hough, Gillette, WY, placed 4th in the short round of the barrel racing with a time of 15.70 seconds.

Teammate Karissa Phillips from Rock Springs, WY, qualified for the short round of the goat tying.

Cameron Jensen, sophomore, Bingham, NE, continues to battle for a College National Finals Rodeo qualification. Jensen qualified for the short round in the tie down roping with a time of 10.6.

The Lancers will conclude their spring season April 30-May 2 at a rodeo hosted by Colorado State University that will be held in Greeley, CO.

The Eastern Wyoming College chapter of SkillsUSA finished up an outstanding year, at the Welding Fabrication Competition held in Casper, WY on April 15 and 16.

Bailey Martin, Guernsey, WY, 6th place and Trent Taylor, Big Piney, WY 1st place in the individual metal fabrication.

EWC’s three-member fabrication team of Nathan Ostrander, North Platte, NE; Cody Shrewsbury, Alliance, NE; and Trevor Sorg, Douglas, WY placed 1st.

The team welded a director’s chair from prints that were given to them. They had 6 hours to assemble and weld the project. This process allows the judges to check for safety, teamwork, weld process, and a finished product. The students had a really good showing of their talents.

“These students competed, and represented the EWC welding program well. “I am extremely proud of our students, they worked exceptionally hard, and accomplished a great deal of success,” said Stan Nicolls, SkillsUSA sponsor.

 

Jensen wins tie down at Casper College Rodeo

Cameron Jensen, a sophomore from Bingham, NE won the average in the tie down roping at the annual rodeo hosted by Casper College. Jensen won the long round with a time of 10.1 seconds and placed 3rd in the short round with an 11.3. He also split 5th/6th in the first round of the steer wrestling. “Cameron has been roping consistent all spring. Glad to see him moving up in the standings,” said Coach Jake Clark.

Jensen’s strong performance this season in the tie down roping has landed him in 2nd place in the Central Rocky Mountain Regional standings heading into the last two rodeos of the season. The top three in each event will qualify to compete in the College National Finals Rodeo held in Casper in June.

Sophomore Ty Bass, Brewster, NE, split 5th and 6th in the first round of the team roping with partner Ellie Bard, Gillette College.

The Lancers will compete in Laramie, WY, April 23-25 at the annual University of Wyoming rodeo.

EWC to hold New Student Registration Events

Eastern Wyoming College Registration & Advising for Summer & Fall 2021Eastern Wyoming College has announced that four new student registration events will be held at the main campus in Torrington on May 28, June 11, July 19 and August 9. Students will sign up for a 30-minute session to meet with their advisor either virtually or in-person to register for the Fall 2021 semester.

Students will have the opportunity to take the ACCUPLACER placement exams, if needed. This computer based placement exam is used to ensure placement into the appropriate English, reading, and math courses. The ACCUPLACER fee has been waved through Fall 2021.

Financial Aid staff will be available either virtually or in-person to assist students with the financial aid process and preparing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

HAND & FOOT AFTERNOON

Bring your hands and your feet to the selected Tuesday afternoons in May, June, and July to play the popular Canasta-like card game.  It is fast-paced, challenging, and a fun game.  Please note that you will have no one to blame for the hand or foot you are dealt, because you deal your own.  Packaged snacks and bottled water will be provided.

Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf The golf tournament scheduled in Sterling, CO April 17-18 has been canceled due to the weather.

EWC Art students display work

Two graduating students in the art program at Eastern Wyoming College will have their work on display at the Goshen County Library Friends of the Library’s book sale beginning Saturday, April 10th.

Whitney Martin, Guernsey, WY; and Margaret (Maggie) Hughes, Crawford, NE, both entered the art program in the Fall of 2019. Their wild imaginations combine with excellent craftsmanship to create fascinating two- and three-dimensional works of art.

The art display and book sale will be in the Activity Center next to the Library on East A, Saturdays from 10-1 and Monday through Friday from 10-5 through April 21st. The show will move to the lobby of the Fine Arts Center at EWC at the completion of this show.

EWC notified of second positive student case

Eastern Wyoming College officials have received notification of a second positive COVID-19 case of an on-campus student. This case is related to the positive case announced earlier today. Officials are working directly with this student to determine contact tracing and will directly contact any individuals who are determined to be at risk due to close contact. Close contact refers to an individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes.

It is imperative that individuals remain diligent and carefully follow all public health orders and safety measures. As a reminder, if you have symptoms of illness, or develop COVID-19 symptoms while on campus, isolate yourself immediately and contact a health care professional. Please remember to continue to practice good hygiene, social distancing, and wear a face-covering or mask at all times. All students, employees, and visitors are required to wear masks or face coverings in all EWC facilities. Any updates will be posted on the EWC website at the following link: https://ewc.wy.edu/alerts/.
