EWC’s Caldwell and Kocian win in Sheridan
The Lancers travelled to Sheridan, September 30- October 1. Six student athletes made it back to the short-go on Sunday morning. Among those six, two champions emerged from the Pat Hamilton Memorial Sheridan College Rodeo. Lancers RaeLee Caldwell, freshman, and Camryn Kocian, freshman both clinched the average in the goat tying and barrels.
The EWC women’s team walked away from Sheridan as the co-champions on the weekend, splitting the win with Gillette Community College.
Lancer Caldwell from Gillette, WY won her second rodeo of the fall season with a 7.8 second run in the long go and a 7.9 second run in the short go. Kocian, from Brainard, NE, earned her number one spot with a 17.73 second run in the long go and a 17.55 second run in the long go, which was also the fastest of the round. Kocian also was coming off an average win in Riverton from the previous weekend.
EWC’s Jessica Woodward, a sophomore from Custer, South Dakota, ended her weekend fifth in the average in the goat tying with an 8.2 second run in the long go and 8.1 second run in the short go.
Lancer Cooper Phillipps, of Burwell Nebraska, finished eighth in the average for the tie-down roping with a 10.1 second run in the long go and a 20.1 second run in the short go.
Two EWC freshmen Wyatt Hajny and TC Hughson came back for short-go Sunday in the steer wrestling. Hajny, originally from Nelson, Nebraska finished out his weekend tenth in the average. Hughson from Mitchell, Nebraska finished his weekend fifth with an 8.4 second run in the long go and a 7.0 second run in the short go.
The EWC women’s team currently sits third in the region and the men’s team sits eighth going into the fourth rodeo of the fall season. The Lancers will head to Cheyenne, WY for the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo (Oct 6-8).
