What should I bring to college?

You will need bedding for a standard twin size bed, pillows, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, television, personal computer if you have one, telephone, microwave, dorm refrigerator, towels, laundry detergent (preferably liquid that is high efficient), study lamp, pens, pencils, notebooks, personal items to make you feel at home, garbage can, laundry basket and an alarm clock. You may wish to bring things to decorate your room to fit your personality.

How big are the rooms?

All rooms have two standard twin beds, two closets, two dressers, two desks, two desk chairs, two phone jacks, two cable and internet hook ups and a window. The suites located in Eastern Hall have a kitchenette connecting the two suites. The suites in Lancer Hall also have two night stands. All suites allow students to bunk the beds.

When can I move in?

You will be notified by letter concerning move in dates. Student athletes and students in special programs are allowed to move in to the residents halls early and in accordance with the special programs in which they participate. The general student population will have access to the building at 12:00 noon to move in.

How will I know who my roommate is?

The housing department will inform you by mail, who your roommate is for the semester. You will be given contact information so you and your roommate can begin correspondence before the beginning of the semester.

Can I have pets?

No pets are allowed except for fish in small fish bowls.

What if I get sick?

If you become ill and need medical attention, the housing staff will assist you. Torrington has a public health service as well as a clinic and hospital.

Where do I go to eat?

All students eat in the cafeteria located in the main building. The cafeteria serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday and lunch only on Saturday and Sunday. The Student Center also serves breakfast,  lunch and dinner from their menu, Monday through Friday along with snacks and soft drinks.

Can family members or friends stay in my room with me overnight?

Family members and friends of your gender are allowed to stay with you overnight with the permission of your roommate and the Director of Housing. Overnight visits are limited to 2 (two) nights.

What if I don’t like my roommate?

If you and your roommate have irreconcilable differences, meet with the Director of Residence Life and together we will work on resolving the issue in a positive manner for everyone.

Can I have a single room?

Single rooms are assigned only in the event that the resident halls are not at capacity. Visit with the Director of Residence Life for more information.

What does it cost to do laundry?

All washers and dryers are free for on-campus residents. Please use high efficiency liquid laundry soap in the washing machines.
