TORRINGTON, WY –
EWC Fitness Center member Darrel Werger is shown using one of the Nautilus machines during the Senior Circuit Hour.
At the beginning of the new year, many resolutions include fitness goals. The Fitness Center at Eastern Wyoming College provides several options for reaching those goals. The Fitness Center has a large variety of cardio-vascular machines, free weights, and Nautilus machines that will target all the major muscle groups of the body.
Darrel Werger is one member who utilizes the circuit. “I have been using the Fitness Center since the early 90’s and because of that; I weigh within two pounds of my retirement weight. I work out five days a week. It is hard to go some days, but once you are there you just feel so much better.”
Werger works out during the hour reserved for seniors. The Senior Circuit Hour is available Monday – Friday from 10:00am to 11:00am and is free to all persons age 60 and older. The Senior Circuit Hour is a joint effort between EWC and the Senior Friendship Center.
Over the past two years, the fitness center has undergone a facelift. “We replaced the lighting, carpet, Nautilus circuit equipment and circuit stationary bikes,” added EWC Fitness Center Director Jan Lilletvedt. “For two years we were awarded grants from the Goshen County Recreation Board and that allowed us to update the equipment. We then were able to donate the Universal equipment to the LaGrange Community Center and the bikes were donated to the Goshen County Schools.”
Husband and wife team Roger and Emily Hoff have been utilizing the Fitness Center since 1991. “Our son and his wife gave us a four-month membership as birthday presents that year and we have been here ever since. Even though we are now retired, we still work out every morning at 5:30,” shared Mrs. Hoff. She also added that they are really enjoying the changes and like having plenty of equipment available so they don’t have to wait. The Fitness Center has expanded over the years. The Center opened in the Fall of 1990 with 2 treadmills and no elliptical trainers. Currently there are 7 treadmills and 5 elliptical trainers. This equipment has been added at the request and demand of the membership.
“One of the reasons we keep going is because we have become acquainted with so many others who work out in the morning also and now we are all friends. It is also nice to have state-of-the-art equipment and the staff there to help you if needed,” added Mrs. Hoff.
Franklin Smith joined the Fitness Center when it first opened. He feels it is a good way to keep weight in check, relieve aches and pains, and stay limber. Smith also compliments the changes, “It is a definite improvement and has made it a first-rate facility.”
The Fitness Center provides a variety of membership options. Option one includes a single annual membership, option two is a family annual membership, option three is full-time student membership and option four is corporate membership.
