Neal SherbeynEastern Wyoming College has announced the appointment of Neal Sherbeyn as the interim head men’s basketball coach and Director of the Fitness Center.  He has most recently served as the assistant coach of the EWC women’s basketball team under Coach Tom Andersen.

“I am very excited.  It has always been a goal of mine to be a head coach at the college level,” shared Coach Sherbeyn.  “This is also a bittersweet situation as I have really enjoyed getting to know the ladies from the Southeast Cyclones.  They have been great to work with and I appreciate the trust they put in me.  This is an opportunity I just can’t let pass by and is a great move for me and my family.”

Sherbeyn went on to add, “This community has been so welcoming to me and my family and I have appreciated the opportunity to be involved in youth activities.

This appointment follows the resignation of Casey Jones who coached the Lancers since 2007.

“I have a lot of respect for Casey and am honored to take over a program that he has built.  I wish him the best of luck.  Good things will happen for him because he is a good person,” added Sherbeyn.

“I also want to give a special thanks to Coach Andersen, Rex Cogdill and Dr. Patterson.  They have given me a great opportunity here and I am looking forward to continuing to work with Coach Andersen as the newly appointed interim athletic director.  You can search all your life to meet a guy like him and I am very fortunate to work with him,” said Sherbeyn.

EWC Interim AD Tom Andersen added the following, “I appreciate all that Coach Jones has accomplished as the men’s basketball coach during his tenure at EWC.  We are excited to appoint Neal as the interim men’s basketball coach.  He brings a great deal of experience in the fitness area as well as his experience as a college and professional athlete.  His enthusiasm, personality and work ethic make him a tremendous asset to the Lancer Athletic department.  I look forward to working with him as a head coach.”

Sherbeyn earned his B.S. in Kinesiology from Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison in 1994.  He has served as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at LaSalle-Peru High School in Peru, IL, and as an Assistant Football Coach at the same school.  He was an Exercise Specialist at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center for six years.  He has certifications from the American Heart Association and the American Council on Exercise Certification.
