EWC highlights spring semester Community Education classes

December 18, 2019

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering the following classes for the spring semester.

Alla Prima Oil Painting

Instructor:  Dr. Monte Stokes, EWC Professor/Department Head-Ag/Business

Alla prima refers to a direct panting approach where paint is applied wet-on-wet without letting earlier layers dry.  In Italian, the term alla prima means “at first attempt”.  Paintings created using this technique are usually completed in a single session.  This made it popular with the Impressionists, as they were able to more easily capture the fleeting light and color of the environment. Learn how to see as an artist as you explore alla prima oil painting with instructor, Monte Stokes.  Monte will teach you the fundamentals of alla prima painting and how to create paintings from life.  Learn how to simplify the subject matter by blocking in shapes. Leaving out useless details, and using correct values and edges to make your paintings look realistic.  The class will consist of discussion, demonstration, and lots of painting during which the instructor will offer help and critique.  Youth 15+ may register, all skill levels welcome.  Supply list will be provided at registration.

Date:   Sunday, January 12 to February 16
Time:   1:00-5:00pm
Cost:  $150
