EWC Lancer Golf team Region IX champs
Following a ruling from the National Junior College Athletic Association that allowed the regional awards to be awarded on the Fall 2019 season, the Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team has been crowned the 2019-2020 Region IX Champions.
The Lancers secured all four spots of the 1st Team All Region with first through fourth place regional finishes as follows:
- Jovin Tan, sophomore, Taiping, Malaysia
- Tomas Kubata, freshman, Prague, Czech Republic
- Mason Hale, sophomore, Atkinson, NE
- Lucas Howell, freshman, Colorado Springs, CO
RJ Moya, sophomore, Three Rivers, TX, was named to the 2nd Team All Region with his tie for 6th place regional finish.
“It was great to hear the news that we could use the fall standings to award team and individual awards. Everyone in the region works so hard all year long, and everyone was disappointed that we could not play this spring, so this is some good news that we could all use right now,” said Coach Zach Smith. “It is hard right now when Thursdays and Fridays roll around as we should be playing in tournaments but I am happy that the entire team is safe during this global pandemic. I am so proud of the team and what they were able to accomplish this year. I’m excited for the players that are transferring on, the players that are returning and for the new recruits coming in next year. Lancer Golf will be back and ready to roll this Fall!”
The NJCAA National Division 1 Men’s Golf Championship has been canceled because of the national COVID-19 crisis.
