The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team won the annual fall tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College on September 19-20. The Lancers shot a 579 to take the win. McCook Community College was second with a score of 601.

“We played a different course than we normally play in Sterling so it was a learning experience for all teams and coaches on the first day,” said Coach Zach Smith. “I think we played a little too aggressive on the first day. There are some holes that invite some aggressive play. The second day the guys played smarter and we were able to shoot a better team score as a result. It was great to see JoVin get his first tournament win as a Lancer. He has been really close to winning during his time here so I’m happy to see him finally put two great rounds together.”

Sophomore JoVin Tan, Taiping, Malaysia, won the two-day tournament shooting scores of 69, 69 for 138. Other Lancer scores were as follows:

Tomas Kubata, freshman, Prague, Czech Republic, 73, 72 – 145, 2nd
RJ Moya, sophomore, Three Rivers, TX, 75, 72 – 147, 4th
Max Maynard, freshman, Colchester, United Kingdom, 75, 74 – 149, tied 5th
Mason Hale, sophomore, Atkinson, NE, 74, 76 – 150, tied 7th
Lucas Howell, freshman, Colorado Spring, CO, 78, 75 – 153, tied 9th

The Lancers will travel to LaJunta, CO to play in the Otero Junior College tournament September 26-27.
