EWC women’s team holds on to lead in region
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo Team kicked off the spring season at the annual Gillette College Rodeo held March 16-17 in Gillette.
“The women’s team did a great job maintaining their number one position with placings from Karissa Rayhill and Brooke Glass,” said Coach Jake Clark. “The men’s team had a strong showing. We are looking forward to hosting our home rodeo this weekend.”
Sophomore Karissa Rayhill was 2nd in the long round of the goat tying, tied for 2nd in the short round and finished the weekend 2nd in the average.
In the breakaway roping, sophomore Brooke Glass was 3rd in the short round and 4th in the average.
Five EWC student athletes qualified for the short round in the team roping. Freshman Ty Chasek and partner Cord Roberts, LCCC, were 5th in the short round and 5th in the average. Sophomore Braden Pirrung and partner Jace Engesser, Gillette College, were 3rd in the long round, 6th in the short round and 6th in the average. Gannon Johnson, sophomore, and partner Tommy Hall, Casper, placed 4th in the long round. The EWC freshman team of Chase Atkinson and Chadron Coffield placed 5th in the long round.
Coffield won the long round of the tie down roping with a time of 9.1 seconds. Teammate Teigen Marchant, freshman, was 6th in the long round, short round, and average.
The EWC student athletes will host their home rodeo, Lancer Rodeo, March 22-24 at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.
