EWC ready for Lancer Rodeo

Eastern Wyoming College Lancer RodeoFinal preparations are coming together for the annual Lancer Rodeo which will be held on March 4, 5 and 6 at the Goshen County Pavilion in Torrington, Wyoming.  On Friday the 4th, slack will begin at 1 and the performance is a 7.  Slack will begin on Saturday at 9 am with the performance kicking off at 7 pm.  The short round will take place on Sunday at noon.

“We have been practicing since January,” shared Coach Jake Clark.  “The team competed great this fall, hopefully that continues right into the spring season.  Some of our athletes are currently sitting well in regional standings and we have several others who are coming right along and will challenge those standings throughout the spring season.”

The men’s team is in second place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region with a total of 1897.50 points.  They trail Chadron State College who has a point total of 2280.  Casper College is in third place with 1645.

Sophomore AJ Freeman, Dunning, NE, is leading the men’s all around with 530 points.

EWC dominates the team roping standings with the freshman team of Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and partner Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY, leading the pack with 425 points.  Teammates and fellow freshmen Gunner Walker, Arthur, NE and partner Kade Pinneo, Rising City, NE, are in 6th place with 155 points.  Other Lancer team ropers in the top 15 include Cody Lane, Torrington, WY and partner Tyus Olson, Mud Butte, SD; Trevor Schnaufer, Pueblo, CO, Blaine Finney, Ainsworth, NE, Cotey Hansen, Chadron, NE and Cody Colman, O’Neill, NE.

Freeman also leads the steer wrestling with a total of 310 points.  His brother, Tanner Freeman, is 8th.

Lane is 2nd in the tie down roping and teammate AJ Freeman is 3rd.

Tickets will be available at the door and are $7 for adults and $4 for students.  There is not a charge for the slack.  Each of the performances will be available by webcast.  Those interested in watching online will find the link on the EWC website at ewc.wy.edu.
