EWC wins second at first golf tournament

The Eastern Wyoming College golf team traveled to LaJunta, CO where they competed in a tournament hosted by Otero Junior College.  The Lancers were second with a team score of 592 behind host OJC who scored 591.

“The guys played well.  We were down by four strokes after day one and narrowed the gap to one stroke by the end of the tournament,” shared Coach Zach Smith.  “Denton played really well and I am looking forward to a great year with him and the rest of the team.  We have a lot of talented players that will be fun to watch throughout the year.  We are looking forward to a great tournament at Sterling.”

Leading the Lancers was sophomore Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY who had a two-day total of 145 placing him in second place.  Other scores for the Lancers were as follows:

Calum Giffen, freshman, Kelty, Scotland – 148, tied for 4th
Eric Lovell, sophomore, Greeley, CO – 150
Jared Pilkington, freshman, Scottsbluff, NE – 151
Arvy Shongwe, freshman, Ezulwini, Swaziland – 153

The Lancers will travel to Sterling, CO on September 8-9 to compete in the NJC tournament.
