Lancer rodeo team caps off fall season with a win

The Eastern Wyoming College men’s rodeo team finished the fall rodeo season at the annual Laramie County Community College rodeo with a team win.

“The men’s team finished strong,” shared EWC rodeo coach Jake Clark. “Our steer wrestlers Dustin Dailey and Tyler Thorson really stepped up this weekend winning 1st and 2nd. It is good to see these guys finish the fall season strong. They are both capable of winning a regional title.”

In the steer wrestling, Dailey, a sophomore from Long Pine, NE was 8th in the long go and 1st in the short go to finish 1st in the average. Thorson, a sophomore from Towner, ND 1st in the long go and 2nd in the short go for 2nd place in the average.

Freshman Cody Packer, freshman from Sturgis, SD was 5th in the long go of the tie down roping and finished 7th in the average.

Three teams of EWC competitors qualified for the short go in the team roping. Trey Yates, freshman, Pueblo, CO and partner Brit Ellerman, UW, were 2nd in the long go. Brock Gotchall, freshman, Laramie, WY and Denum Santero, sophomore, Scottsbluff, NE were 4th and teammates Shane Suchy, sophomore, Tryon, NE and Trent Kelly, sophomore, Sheridan, WY were 5th. Yates and Ellerman won the short go and the average with the other teams finishing in 4th and 5th place respectively in the average.

“Trey Yates came on strong these last two rodeos. He has worked hard and roped well. I look forward to watching him compete this spring,” shared Coach Clark.

In the bull riding, sophomore Josh Davison, Miles City, MT was 4th in the long go and finished 2nd in the average.

Sophomore Mardee Sierks, Brewster, NE, was 5th in the long go of the rodeo and completed the weekend with a 6th place finish in the average.

Becca Kartak, sophomore, Colome, SD was 6th in the long go of the breakaway roping and finished 3rd in the average. Teammate Sadie Gjermundson, sophomore, Halliday, ND was 7th in the long go.

“Becca moved up in the standings with her 3rd place finish at LCCC. The women’s team fell a little in the team standings but we have some individuals doing very well,” added Clark.

At the conclusion of the fall season, the women’s team is in 3rd place in the regional standings and the men’s team is in 4th place. The spring season will kick off in March.
