The Community Education department at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington announces the following upcoming classes.

World War II Terror Tech
EWC Student James Meyer has a passion for history and wants to share some of that passion with other history buffs. He’s developed a three session course in which he will impart knowledge around the conception, construction, use, and further development of both well-known and obscure weaponry utilized by the Axis Powers during World War II.

Classes will be held on Mondays, beginning February 4 and ending on March 25 in CTEC 212 from 6-7:30 pm. The cost is $25.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN A True American
Instructor, Gretchen Wollert, has a passion for history. One of her two BA degrees is in History. She has a fascination with Abraham Lincoln, agreeing with a common belief that he is the greatest President the US has ever known.

In the first of this two session class, Gretchen will share the results of her in-depth study of the events leading up to what she considers to be the most poignant 2 minute speech of history, the Gettysburg Address. She will talk about the history around the address and demystify misconceptions concerning Lincoln, helping participants get to know the REAL Abraham Lincoln.

In the second session, she will lead a deeper discussion on the historical times of Lincoln and question how he might deal with today’s political climate and issues, perhaps finding that things are not so different in 2018 compared to the mid 1860’s.

Lincoln dealt with technology (telegraph) and the news media (newspaper partisanship) just as current US leaders deal with the internet and social media. Discussion will also cover how the US Civil War affected foreign policy and the world economy, the unwavering platform of Lincoln’s 2^nd term campaign, the power of the soldier vote and Lincoln’s “lawyer’s dodge” in the realm of “no peace without victory”.   Join Gretchen and catch the “history bug”.

These two sessions will be held on Monday, February 11 and 18 from 6-8:00 pm. The cost of this class is $25 and will be held in CTEC room 210.
