Student’s enrolled in Ellen Creagar’s American and Wyoming Government class this spring semester are not only committing to individual community service projects, they are also teaming up with a 5^th grade class in Sacramento, CA, and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, CA to collect 1.5 million bandages in honor of Anne Frank’s 90^th birthday on June 12.

The College received a letter and photo from a student in Ms. Liss’s 5^th grade class, Alondra Huerta. She wrote an incredible letter asking for help with this challenge.

There were 1.5 million children killed in the Holocaust. Names of some of the children who died will be written on the bandages. This project was started 10 years ago and, by 2013, they had collected 500,000; in June 2018, they reached 1 million.

Students are attempting to collect as many bandages as they can and/or cash with which to purchase bandages. All bandages collected will be sent to Ms. Liss’s class before the semester ends. Those wishing to help these EWC students in their challenge, can bring bandages to the EWC basketball games, leave bandages at the EWC Information Center, or contact Ms. Creagar at 307.532.8345 to arrange for collection.

“I can’t wait to see how many bandages the Lancers and Lancer community can collect to help this group get to 1.5 million. My class is writing names of the children killed on the bandages as we collect them. That has made the fact that each bandage represents a child very clear and sobering,” said Ms. Creagar. “We will also purchase bandages if it’s easier for people to donate cash. We’ll be collecting through May 1.”
