Eastern Wyoming College has been notified by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) that the Lancer volleyball team, led by Coach Dante Geoffrey, is a recipient of the 2020 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The letter received by Dr. Travers states, “In this uncertain time leadership matters. While we lost our ability to be together this spring and to play our sport, Dante was a critical anchor for players transitioning to and sometimes struggling with remote learning. Dante did not win this award, your team did, but the encouragement to stay focused on academics means this accomplishment was not happenstance.”

Be proud of your volleyball program. The benchmark is an average 3.3 GPA for the entire year and even without the sport to bond them this spring, they achieved this standard!”

“Early last fall we talked about what it would take, and what it would mean, to earn AVCA honors,” Geoffrey said. “All the work, all the commitment, that was 100 percent our players. They took pride in themselves and in the program they represent and it paid off just like it does on the court.”

This award is presented by the AVCA and the United States Marine Corps.
