EWC wins Blue River Classic
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team traveled to Lincoln, NE to compete in the Blue River Classic held April 2-3. There were 19 collegiate teams, including the Lancers competing in the tournament. Teams were from Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.
The Lancers won the two-day tournament with a total score of 596. Midland University was second with a score of 599.
“This was the first tournament, in my knowledge of Lancer golf history, that we have participated in with mostly University teams. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was great to come out of the first day with a 10 stroke lead,” said Coach Zach Smith. “The course was great and the weather cooperated. Gonzalo and Harry positioned themselves well the first day for a top 10 finish. The second day did bring some rain and a new course, but the guys performed well again to finish on top. I’m so proud of this group, on the course, and in the classroom.”
Sophomore Gonzalo Arcelay, Munguia, Spain, won the tournament shooting 70-73 for a 143. Other scores for the Lancers were as follows:
Harry Walch, sophomore, Staines, England, 73, 76 – 149, tied 7th
