EWC wins McCook scrimmage
The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team won the Region IX Scrimmage held Friday, September 18th in McCook, NE. The Lancers scored 329 with McCook Community College placing second with 336.
“It was good to get the team win and individual win for Tomas but overall we had a rough day,” said Coach Zach Smith. “Heritage Hills is such a tough course, especially when you add in the wind that we had that day. We have a fairly young team that had not played the course so it was a learning experience. I think there are some things we can learn from this tournament that should make us stronger in the long run. We’ll put some work in this week and see what we can do in Sterling.”
Leading the Lancers and winning the tournament was sophomore Tomas Kubata, Prague, Czech Republic, with a score of 74. Other Lancers on the Scrimmage team scored as follows:
Conrado Chozas, freshman, Madrid, Spain – 80, 7th
Remington Newell, freshman, Spanish Fork, UT – 84, tied 10th
Tyler Wallace, freshman, Ephraim, UT – 91, tied 20th
Owen Walsh, freshman, Ottawa, Canada – 97, tied 25th
Lancers playing for tournament experience scored as follows:
Tim Van Stiphout, freshman, Hasselt, Belguim – 76
Brendan Thomas, freshman, Farmington, UT – 77
Johannes Lindstrom, freshman, Falkoping, Sweden – 82
Russel Sprecher, freshman, Casper, WY – 83
Eric Stevens, sophomore, Bridgeport, NE – 88
Luca Rodrigues, sophomore, Benoni, South Africa – 91
The Lancers will travel to Sterling, CO for a Region IX Scrimmage on Friday, September 25 at a tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College.
